Travel, like every human activity carries with it inherent risks. Every traveler should remember that not only are you not immune from tragedy just because you’re on your vacation, but that the further you depart from your own experience the more wary and cautious that you should be before just assuming that everything is fine.
We do our best to keep our articles and posts accurate and up-to-date, but situations change, sometimes very quickly. What was safe when we went could be dangerous and ill-advised shortly thereafter. Do your homework, check the news and government sources. Talk to people you trust that are currently there or have been there recently.
The best that we can do is tell you what decisions we made, why we made them and what happened. Sometimes we may take risks that are calculated on our part, but that doesn’t mean that we recommend it for every individual. Other times, we may hesitate to recommend something that seems perfectly reasonable to you. Yes, travel is a great opportunity to try new things and be open to new experiences, but that doesn’t mean you should throw all caution to the wind. Use your common sense.
It bears repeating: Use your common sense. At the end of the day, you and you alone are responsible for the decisions you make and the consequences thereof. If your gut tells you that jumping off of that waterfall, or getting into that car is a bad idea, trust yourself. There will always be new opportunities for adventure, so don’t beat yourself up or let other pressure you into something that seems like a bad idea to you.
